7 mm to inches

Hello there! Let’s talk about a small measurement called millimeters (mm) and how to change it into inches.

You might know that in gardening, we often use different measurements to plan how far apart to plant our seeds or how big our garden beds should be. Sometimes, we have to convert measurements from one unit to another. For example, if we have a measurement in millimeters, we might want to know what that is in inches.

Now, here’s the cool part: 1 inch is equal to 25.4 millimeters. So, if we want to find out how many inches are in 7 millimeters, we can use this formula:

$$
\text{Inches} = \frac{\text{Millimeters}}{25.4}
$$

By plugging in 7 for the millimeters, it looks like this:

$$
\text{Inches} = \frac{7 \, \text{mm}}{25.4} \approx 0.2756 \, \text{inches}
$$

So, 7 millimeters is about 0.28 inches. That’s a tiny bit smaller than a third of an inch!

To help you understand how small that is, here are 7 objects that are exactly equal to 7 mm:

  1. A pencil tip (the very top end of a sharpened pencil)
  2. The width of a standard paperclip
  3. The diameter of a small pea
  4. The size of a standard eraser head on a pencil
  5. The thickness of 2 stacked credit cards
  6. The length of a grain of rice
  7. The thickness of a piece of cardboard

Now you know how to measure small things in gardening! Happy planting! 🌱
